Valparaiso's entire athletic family came together on Monday evening for its annual student-athlete picnic at Brown Field.

More than 400 student-athletes along with coaches and administrative staff were on hand for a night of food, games, and camaraderie to kick off the 2011-2012 school year.

The volleyball team was honored as the winner of last year's Crusader Cup, the teams were introduced, and the student-athletes were welcomed to campus by President Mark Heckler.

With competition beginning last weekend, the 2011-2012 season is off to a high-flying start.
