Valparaiso sophomore sprinter Julian Smith (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) will be one of 48 participants in the 100m dash at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla. this coming Thursday, as he was added to the entry list on Monday afternoon by the NCAA.

Smith earned his spot among the 48 competitors in the 100m dash at the East Preliminary Round thanks to a school-record time of 10.46 seconds, set on April 21 at the Al Owens Classic in Allendale, Mich. The sophomore has won the 100m dash in six of his seven meets this spring during the outdoor campaign, including setting a new meet record at the Horizon League Outdoor Championships.

The first round of the 100m dash preliminaries are set to go off at 5:30 p.m. CDT on Thursday afternoon. The event quarterfinals are slated for a 5:30 p.m. start on Friday afternoon.
