Voigt Earns Individual Medalist Honors as Valpo Finishes Second at Chicago State

Junior Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) smashed a number of program records en route to earning individual medalist honors, leading the Valparaiso women's golf team to a second-place finish at the CSU Cougar Classic on Tuesday in Chicago, Ill.
Valpo carded a round of 314 on Tuesday, moving up four spots in the team standings to finish tied with IUPUI for second place with a 635 over the 36-hole event. Indiana State earned the team title with a 631.
Voigt shot a 69 on Tuesday to end the tournament at even-par 144, winning the tournament in runaway fashion by seven strokes. Her second-round 69 was six shots clear of anybody else's round on Tuesday. Her single-round score set a new Crusader record by five shots, while the -3 was six strokes better in relation to par than any other round in Valpo history. Meanwhile, Voigt also smashed the Crusaders' 36-hole tournament lows both overall and in relation to par, both by eight strokes.
Junior Brianna Davy (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) was Valpo's second-highest finisher, closing the tournament with an 83 to finish at 162, tied for 24th place. Junior Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead) posted the Crusaders' second-best round on Tuesday with an 80, closing the tournament in a tie for 30th at 164. Junior Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Ironside) finished with an 82 to end with a total of 166, tied for 43rd place, while sophomore A.J. Selig (Hortonville, Wis./Appleton West) tied for 58th place at 170 after shooting an 87 Tuesday.
Valparaiso returns to action this coming weekend at the two-day Cardinal Classic hosted by Ball State, which begins on Saturday, September 22.
