Last Time Out: The Valparaiso men’s basketball team led Detroit by 15 points with less than nine minutes remaining in front of a sellout crowd at the ARC and a national television audience on ESPN2 on Saturday evening, but the Titans scored 19 consecutive points to take the lead as the Crusaders eventually fell by a final of 84-74. Head Coach Bryce Drew: Bryce Drew (42-19) is in his second season at the helm of the Valparaiso men’s basketball program in 2012-2013 after leading the Crusaders to the Horizon League regular season title in his first year as head coach. Drew was named the Horizon League Coach of the Year after guiding Valpo to a 22-win campaign, including a 14-4 mark within the league to capture the title by two games. Drew ascended to the head coaching position on May 17, 2011 after spending six seasons as an assistant and associate head coach with the Crusaders.

Series Notes: Loyola holds a sizable 34-14 lead in the all-time series against the Crusaders, but Valpo holds a 6-5 advantage since joining the Horizon League. The Crusaders dropped their last meeting with the Ramblers, however, as Loyola came into the ARC on Jan. 2 and downed Valpo 63-54 in the league opener. The Crusaders shot just 35.7% from the floor in the loss and were just 4-of-15 from 3-point range.

Battle For the Top
- While @ValpoBasketball fell to Detroit last time out, they still control their own destiny in the league race.
- The Crusaders have three league games remaining - with three wins, they would earn the outright regular season title (13-3).
- With two victories, the worst Valpo could do would be a tie for the regular season title with Detroit at 12-4.
- The Crusaders would win most tiebreakers over the Titans for the top seed in that case.

Turnabout is Fair Play
- The late stages of the Crusaders’ loss to Detroit last time out closely mirrored Valpo’s win at Detroit earlier this year.
- Valpo led by 15 points (63-48) with less than nine minutes to play, at which point Detroit had just a 2.1% chance of winning.
- The Crusaders earned their largest comeback win in at least 20 years in the game at Detroit, overcoming a 22-point second-half deficit.
- The Crusaders still trailed by 11 (88-77) with 3 minutes to play and had just a 0.5% chance to win (according to Ken Pomeroy) at that point.
- Valpo’s two worst defensive efficiency performances of the year have come against Detroit (1.211 and 1.206 points/possession).

Controlling the Basketball
- The Crusaders committed 18 turnovers last time out in the loss against Detroit, with the Titans scoring 28 points off those miscues.

- Valpo is also the first Horizon League team this season to reach the 20-win mark.

Long Stretch of Ws

- The Crusaders’ only loss during that span was an 80-68 defeat at Youngstown State on Jan. 30.
- The last time Valpo had put together a stretch of wins of that magnitude was Jan. 11-Feb. 27, 2003, winning 13 of 14 games.

Winning on the Road
- Valpo won its last road game at Wright State, leading start to finish, and has won six of its last seven home games.

- This marks the third straight year that Valpo has held at least a share of the Horizon League lead at any point past the halfway mark.
- Valpo had a six-game winning streak solely within league play earlier this year, its first since Jan. 15-31, 2004.
- The Crusaders have hit at least 10 3-pointers and shot >50% from beyond the arc in consecutive games twice this year.

- The Crusaders went 34-for-41 from the free throw line in the win over Kent State.
- Valpo had not hit 34 free throws in a single game since a Feb. 8, 1997 win over Northeastern Illinois.
- Valpo allowed 50 points or less in back-to-back games for the first time since Jan. 2003 (NIU 46, Nebraska 50).
- The 50 points scored by Nebraska was the fewest @ValpoBasketball has given up in a loss since Jan. 16, 1984 vs. Western Illinois (41-40).
- Valpo defeated Georgia Southern by 31 points in its opener, its largest season-opening win over a D-I school since moving to D-I.
