Milwaukee's Cody Peterson was five outs away from throwing the first no-hitter in Panther history Friday, but a Jake Hanson (Yorkville, Ill./Aurora Christian) dribbler sabotaged the junior's date with destiny. Peterson went on to record a one-hit shutout just 24 hours after Cole Webb (Tulsa, Okla./Union [Coffeyville CC])'s two-hitter.

Valparaiso fell by a 3-0 final as Dalton Lundeen (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) fired his second complete game of 2014.

Both Hanson and Andy Burns (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville [Heartland CC]) reached base via a hit-by-pitch in the top of the second, but were stranded following a Mark Johnson (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) ground out.

Milwaukee plated a pair in its half of the third as both runs crossed with two outs. Derek Peake led off the frame with a base hit. Peake advanced to second on a Michael Porcaro single just a batter later. Lundeen was able to strike the next two Panthers out, but Mitch Ghelfi broke a scoreless tie with a single up the middle to bring home Peake. Porcaro dashed home in the next at-bat as a Lundeen breaking ball got past Hanson.

Tell Taylor delivered a two-out RBI double to center in the sixth to pad Milwaukee's lead. Peterson retired 17 Crusaders in a row until Hanson's single in the eighth. Shortstop Ryan McShane attempted to make a bare-handed play on the slow roller but he was unable to secure a grip on the ball.

Peterson didn't walk a batter until he issued a free pass to Chris Manning (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro) with one out in the ninth.

On the flip side, Lundeen threw his fourth consecutive quality start as he scattered eleven hits over eight innings. The left-hander punched out five without walking a batter. Friday represented his first career complete game in a nine-inning tilt. He shutout Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on March 8th in a seven-inning affair.

Valpo (14-17, 6-5 Horizon) and Milwaukee (12-16, 5-6 Horizon) will settle the series Saturday at 1:00 pm CT. Ellis Foreman (1-4, 7.09) will face freshman LHP Justin Langley (1-1, 4.30) in the series finale at Henry Aaron Field. Links to the live stats are available at valpoathletics.com.
