Valparaiso softball head coach Jordan Stevens announced today that high school senior Lindsey Norway has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Crusader program as a freshman in the fall of 2011.

Norway, a utility player out of Chicago Christian [Ill.] H.S., has started at shortstop and in the circle for the Knights over her four-year career.  A two-time captain, Norway enjoyed her best season to date as a junior, earning Third Team All-State honors from the Illinois Coaches Association after hitting .496, slugging at an .800 clip, scoring 43 runs and driving in 34.  Also a two-time All-Conference and All-Area selection, Norway is currently hitting .378 this year for the Knights and has scored 16 runs in 13 games.  Norway plays her travel softball for the 18U Homer Hawks Gold (Betcher) squad.

"We are very pleased to welcome Lindsey into our program,” said Stevens.  “Her all-around athleticism, her aggressive nature and her passion for the sport were all things we were looking for.  Lindsey’s ability to play infield and outfield will help our team right away.  She brings with her a very solid bat and defensive prowess.  We are very excited that she decided to continue her career at Valpo.”

Norway is the third signee slated to join the Valparaiso program in the fall of 2011, joining early signing period commitments Brittany Duncan and Tarah McShane.
