Wednesday, March 19, 2003

Valparaiso dropped its sixth straight game on Wednesday afternoon 4-1 to Western Michigan in Kalamazoo, Mich. The second game of the doubleheader was called due to rain.

The Broncos opened the scoring in the second on an RBI single by Jaymie Voss. The Crusaders tied the game in the top of the fourth.

Stephanie Reinke (Parker, Colo./J.K. Mullen H.S.) doubled and scored on a single by Tricia Speziale (Elmhurst, Ill./York H.S.).

The Broncos answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning on a triple and a single, then tacked on an insurance run in the fifth.

Leah Seffernick picked up the win for Western Michigan (10-8), allowing just two hits in five innings. Brittany Attebery (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) suffered the loss for Valpo (3-12), striking out two in the complete game effort.

The second game of the doubleheader was underway before the rains came. It is unknown at this time if the game will be made up.
