Kari Thurman and Lindsey Davis each threw two-hits shutouts on Sunday morning as UMKC swept a doubleheader from Valparaiso 6-0 and 8-0 in Independence, Mo.

In the opener, Thurman struck out seven Crusaders while walking four in leading the Kangaroos to victory. She also helped her own cause at the plate, driving in two runs with a pair of hits.

UMKC scored one in the third on an RBI single by Lindsey Ramsey and never looked back. They added two more in the fourth, both unearned, and tallied the final three runs in the sixth banging out four hits in the frame.

Karen Constien's (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North H.S.) double in the third and Monica Rowan's (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park H.S.) single in the sixth were Valpo's lone hits. Amanada Gilbertson (Murrieta, Calif./West Albany H.S., Ore.) walked three and surrendered ten hits in the circle for the Brown and Gold in the loss.

Jessica Clarke had three hits for UMKC while Ramsey added two.

In the nightcap, the Kangaroos capitalized on five Valpo errors scoring six unearned runs on the way to the victory. Davis faced just two batters more than the minimum, allowing a two-out single to Amy Mitchell (Star, Idaho/Eagle H.S.) in the third and a one-out double to Ali Bultman (Hamilton, Ohio/Fairfield H.S.) in the fifth. She struck out five in the five-inning shutout.

The Kangaroos scored three runs in the second then added an unearned run in the third and four unearned tallies in the fifth. Kristen Caldwell and Sarah Allen each drove home two runs and had two hits in the game for UMKC.

Brittany Atteberry (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) allowed just two earned runs and did not walk a batter for the Brown and Gold, but surrendered ten hits in the game.

Valpo (7-23, 3-8 Mid-Con) will return to action on Monday afternoon with a 3 p.m. doubleheader against #8 ranked DePaul at the Valparaiso University Softball Field.
