DePaul Ends Valpo's Win Streak
Tuesday, April 13, 2004
Sarah Martz threw a perfect game in the opener and Jessica Evans drove in four runs in the night cap as DePaul ended Valparaiso's five-game winning streak with a doubleheader sweep, 10-0 and 12-3, on Tuesday afternoon in Chicago.

Martz struck out eight while retiring all 18 Crusader hitters in order in the opener for the six inning perfect game. The Blue Demons scored four runs in the second and five more in the sixth, capped off by a Sarah Douglas grand slam to end the game.

In the night cap, DePaul (14-19-1) scored eight runs in the fourth to build a 12-0 lead before the Crusaders found the scoreboard in the fifth. Taylor Callahan (Grayson, Ga./Greater Atlanta Christian H.S.) singled home Karen Constien (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North H.S.) for the first run, and Tricia Speziale (Elmhurst, Ill./York H.S.) plated two more with a single as all three runs were unearned.

Valpo (13-17) will look to rebound this weekend as the Crusaders head to Cedar City, Utah for a four game weekend series with Southern Utah beginning with a doubleheader on Friday. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. CDT.
