Valparaiso dropped game one of its doubleheader to Oakland 2-0 on Friday afternoon in Rochester, Mich. The Crusaders led in game two 7-0 in the bottom of the second when the game was suspended due to rain.

Oakland scored a run in the fourth on a wild pitch and added an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI single by Alexandra Perrino.

Laura Chomokos allowed just two Crusader hits, singles by Emily Tkaczyk (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Mundelein H.S.) and Shannon Robinson (Toronto, Ont./John Redmond H.S.).

Brittany Atteberry (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) took the loss for Valpo, allowing eight hits and one earned run in the complete game effort.

Valpo jumped out to an early lead in the second game, but a steady rain halted play. The game is to resume at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning followed by the scheduled doubleheader between Valparaiso (7-34-1, 7-10 Mid-Con) and Oakland (7-32, 1-8 Mid-Con).
