Crusaders Drop Two at Rebel Spring Games

Valparaiso's season continued Monday at the Rebel Spring Games in Orlando, Fla. The Crusaders dropped an extra-inning decision to Saint Peter's, losing 3-2 in eight frames, before falling in their nightcap to Penn, 9-1 in six innings.

Andrea Zappia (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) struck out a career-high 11 batters in the opener against the Peahens, but took the loss. Stephanie Kelly (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) suffered the loss against the Quakers, going 3 1/3 innings and allowing four runs while striking out six hitters. Megan Carroll (Eaton Rapids, Mich./Eaton Rapids) led Valpo against Penn, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and scoring Valpo's only run of the game.

Valparaiso (1-3) returns to the field at the Rebel Spring Games on Tuesday. The Crusaders take on Sacred Heart at 10 a.m. Central time and follow with a game against Georgetown at noon.
