Valparaiso senior outfielder Karen Korb (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District V First Team for a second straight year, as announced by CoSIDA today.  Korb is now eligible for Academic All-American consideration.

On the field, Korb was named a Second Team All-Horizon League honoree Wednesday night.  She is hitting .329 on the season with 41 runs scored, second-most in a single season in Crusader history.  The senior has swiped a single-season record 34 bases this year, among the top-ten in the nation, and now has 99 career steals, more than double anybody else in team history.  She has also broken the program career record for runs scored (101) and has tallied 54 hits on the season to date, second-most in a single year in program history.

In the classroom, Korb maintains a 3.94 GPA as a double major in finance and marketing.  Last month, she was named the recipient of Valpo’s Laurel Award, presented to the Crusader senior student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA.  A four-time Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week honoree and a three-time NFCA Scholar-Athlete, Korb has earned Valpo Presidential academic honors each of her three seasons of eligibility and has been on the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll each of Valpo’s first three semesters in the league.

To be eligible for Academic All-District, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status, own a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20 and be either a starter or key reserve.  District V consists of schools in Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ontario and Manitoba.
