After posting three multi-hit games in four contests last week, including her first career four-hit game, Valparaiso sophomore Jorgi Calombaris (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week.
Calombaris started the weekend at the Samford Invitational by going 3-for-4, her first career three-hit game, in the tournament opener against Houston Baptist. The sophomore picked up a pair of doubles and drove in a run as well. She then topped herself just a couple hours later, going 4-for-4 in a contest against the host Bulldogs. Calombaris scored three runs and drove in two, and launched her second career home run.
Calombaris then registered her third multi-hit game of the weekend Saturday morning as the Crusaders defeated Alabama State, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. For the week, the sophomore hit .643 (9-for-14) with five runs scored and four RBIs.
Calombaris, who earned her first career weekly award from the league office, and the rest of the Crusaders return to action this weekend at Arkansas’ Wooo Pig Classic.
