Valparaiso University softball senior Jorgi Calombaris (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) has been named to the Horizon League’s Academic All-League squad, as announced by the league office Friday morning.
Calombaris has enjoyed success both on the field and in the classroom throughout her four-year Crusader career. This season, she has been a mainstay near the top of the Valpo lineup, hitting .284 with 23 runs scored and ranking 10th in the Horizon League with nine doubles. Within league-only play, Calombaris is hitting a team-best .351 and ranks fourth in the league in doubles and fifth in hits. She has also been a stalwart at the hot corner, tallying 119 assists this season – second-most among all league players.
Over her four years at Valpo, Calombaris has truly been a champion in the classroom as well. She entered this semester with a 3.695 cumulative grade point average as an elementary education major and a special education minor. A member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll each semester eligible, she has earned Valpo Presidential Academic honors each of the last three years.
