Malthaner, Norman lead Valpo Past Oakland

Elissa Malthaner (Brighton, Mich./Brighton H.S.) and Cyndi Norman (Minooka, Ill./Minooka H.S.) each had career evenings as Valparaiso defeated Oakland 29-31, 30-18, 30-14, 30-18 on Friday evening at the Athletics-Recreation Center.

Malthaner had a career high 20 kills and hit .515 to lead the Valpo attack, while Norman recorded her 3,000th assist in the victory.

Valpo hit .279 in the victory, including .429 in game three and .304 in game four.

Michelle Robinson (Bloomington, Ill./Normal H.S.) added 17 kills and 19 digs for the Crusaders, while Heather Hynds (Sylvan Lake, Ill./Mundelein H.S.) tallied ten kills and five blocks. Norman had 50 assists and now has 3,036 for her three-year career. She also had 12 digs.

Katie Bova (Milwaukee, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels H.S.) added 15 digs, while Sarah Schmalz (Corona, Calif./Riverside Christian H.S.) had five aces.

Beth Ann Rourk led Oakland with 11 kills and 19 digs, while Amanda Fowler and Sara Miller each recorded ten kills. Lauren Bramos had 19 digs for the Golden Grizzlies.

Valpo (13-7, 4-2 Mid-Con) and Oakland (2-20, 2-3) will face each other in a rematch next Saturday evening in Rochester, Mich. in a 6 p.m. CDT match.
