Valparaiso used 22 kills and 22 digs from Michelle Robinson (Bloomington, Ill./Normal H.S.) on its way to a 3-1 victory over Penn at the Georgetown Classic.
The Crusaders took game one 30-26 despite hitting just .128 for the game. Game two was tight with the Brown and Gold prevailing 38-36. The Quakers won game three 30-20 led by a .320 hitting percentage, before Valpo finished off the match with a 30-25 victory in game four.
Robinson hit .333 for the match with two aces to add to her nightly performance.
Marion Hansen (Huntley, Ill./Huntley H.S.) added 15 kills and 15 digs for the Crusaders, while Lauren Moulton (Elgin, Ill./Larkin H.S.) tallied seven blocks and Heather Hynds (Sylvan Lake, Ill./Mundelein H.S.) added six. Cyndi Norman (Minooka, Ill./Minooka H.S.) dished out 45 assists for the Brown and Gold.
Stacey Carter led Penn (0-1) with 17 kills and 23 digs, while Michelle Kauffman added 15 kills while hitting .367 for the match.
Valpo (3-2) outhit Penn .170-.153 for the contest while outdigging the Quakers 98-87 and holding an 11-9 advantage on blocks.
The Crusaders will play two matches on Saturday, facing the host Hoyas at 11 a.m. CDT and Long Island at 4 p.m. CDT.
