Crusaders Win Third Straight, Down Nevada in Three

The Valparaiso University volleyball team won its third straight match to begin the season for the first time since 1990 on Saturday afternoon as the Crusaders defeated Nevada 30-21, 30-28, 30-22 in the Titan Classic held in Fullerton, Calif.

The Crusaders hit .287 for the match while holding the Wolfpack to just .094 hitting and outblocked Nevada 13-5 in the triumph.

Liz Mikos (Dundee, Ill./Jacobs H.S.) led the Brown and Gold with nine kills and six blocks, while hitting .375 for the match. Michelle Robinson (Bloomington, Ill./Normal H.S.) added eight kills, while Marion Hansen (Huntley, Ill./Huntley H.S.) and Lauren Moulton (Elgin, Ill./Larkin H.S.) tallied seven kills each.

Sarah Schmalz (Corona, Calif./Riverside Christian H.S.) added five blocks for the Crusaders while Sara Silcox (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City H.S.) and Katie Bova (Milwaukee, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels H.S.) each registered ten digs.

Brianne Davis posted 17 kills for Nevada, while Emily Donaldson added ten more. Salaia Salave`a and Karen Adams each had ten digs for the Wolfpack.

Valpo, which handed Nevada (2-1) its first loss of the season, will look to move to 4-0 for the first time in school history on Saturday evening when the Brown and Gold conclude tournament play with a match against Fordham, beginning at 7:30 p.m. CDT.
