Porché Earns AVCA All-Region Honor
Wednesday, December 5, 2007

Sophomore outside hitter Angie Porché (Lynwood, Ill./Thornton Fractional South) became the first player in the history of Valparaiso’s volleyball program to earn American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region honors, as she was named to the 12-player Midwest Region team announced today by the AVCA.

Porché broke Valpo’s single-season record for kills, tallying 584 terminations on the season.  Her average of 4.67 kills/game paced all Horizon League players and ranked 33rd in the nation.  The sophomore also set a new Crusader record for attacks in a season with 1,480 as Valpo’s primary offensive threat.  She reached double figures in kills in 30 of 33 matches on the season and registered at least 20 kills on 14 occasions.

Porché was also one of the Horizon League’s most potent threats from the service line, tying for second among league players with 41 service aces during the 2007 campaign.  Not to be overlooked, the sophomore also contributed significantly on the defensive side of the ball, finishing second on the team with 338 digs.  Porché also tallied 17 double-doubles on the season, closing out the campaign with six straight double-figure efforts in both kills and digs.

Porché was a member of the Horizon League’s 12-member All-League team, and received All-Tournament accolades three times on the season, as she was honored at the Popcorn Classic, the Bowling Green Invitational and the Horizon League Championship.  She was one of just two Horizon League players named to the Midwest Region squad, being joined by Milwaukee’s Leanne Felsing.
