Crusaders Post Five-Game Win over Sycamores

The Valparaiso volleyball team defeated Indiana State 30-24, 26-30, 30-23, 28-30, 20-18 on Sunday afternoon in Terre Haute, Ind.

The Crusaders rallied from a 14-11 deficit in game five to produce the victory.

Valpo had four players tally double-figure kill totals in the victory, led by Michelle Robinson (Bloomington, Ill./Normal H.S.) with 20. Marion Hansen (Huntley, Ill./Huntley H.S.) added 18 kills, while Elissa Malthaner (Brighton, Mich./Brighton H.S.) and Heather Hynds (Sylvan Lake, Ill./Mundelein H.S.) added 15 each.

Hynds hit a team-high .429 for the match, and also added nine blocks, four of them solo.

Sara Silcox (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City H.S.) led the Brown and Gold with a match-high 28 digs to lead five Crusaders in double-figures. Cyndi Norman (Minooka, Ill./Minooka H.S.) added 21 digs along with 67 assists, while Hansen added 18 digs to complete her double-double.

Kylee Osborne led Indiana State with 22 kills and 17 digs, while Christina Marx added 20 digs and a match-high 69 assists.

Valpo outhit the Sycamores .216-.189 for the match, outdigging the hosts 103-96.

Valparaiso (18-9) will return to action on Friday evening as the Crusaders travel to Chicago State for a 7 p.m. match.
