Mikos Sets Single Match Block Record in Win

Valparaiso hit an impressive .313 for the match on Saturday afternoon as the Crusaders defeated Indiana State easily by scores of 30-18, 30-27, and 30-19 at the Kentucky Conference Challenge in Lexington, Ky.

Amy Palash (Winfield, Ill./Saint Francis H.S.), one of two Crusaders on the All-Tournament Team, led the way with 14 kills, hit .367, and added 13 digs. Lauren Moulton (Elgin, Ill./Larkin H.S.) hit .500 with ten kills and added six blocks for the Brown and Gold as well.

Liz Mikos (Dundee, Ill./Jacobs H.S.) set a new three-game school record with 11 blocks in the match while also earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Jessi Novak (Antigo, Wis./Antigo H.S.) was the other Crusader to record a double-double with ten kills and 11 digs.

Sara Silcox (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City H.S.) added 15 digs to lead the way in that category for Valpo.

Brittanie Stowell led the Sycamores with 11 kills while Kelly Spisak had 15 digs for Indiana State (4-3).

Valpo had 58 kills to the Sycamores 36 in the match and outblocked them 16-4.

Valparaiso (6-2) won two of three at the weekend event and will return to action on Tuesday evening when the Crusaders travel to West Lafayette, Ind. for a 7 p.m. match against Purdue.
