Valpo Finishes First Half of Mid-Con Play Unbeaten

Valparaiso finished the first half of Mid-Continent Conference action unbeaten as the Crusaders swept Oakland 30-18, 30-23, 33-31 on Friday evening at the Athletics-Recreation Center to improve to 18-3 overall and 7-0 in Mid-Con action.

The Crusaders extended their school record win streak to 12 with the victory.

Lauren Moulton (Elgin, Ill./Larkin H.S.) led the way in the win with 15 kills, hitting .393. She added five blocks as well. Liz Mikos (Dundee, Ill./Jacobs H.S.) added eight kills, while Tiffany Meikle (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove H.S.) added seven more.

Sara Silcox (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City H.S.) registered a match-high 16 digs, while Amy Palash (Winfield, Ill./Saint Francis H.S.) added nine more. Silcox also served up three of Valpo's nine service aces in the win.

Sara Hughes (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) dished out a team-high 23 assists.

Chelsea Licavoli led Oakland with nine kills and 11 digs. Heather Lippert recorded seven blocks, as the Golden Grizzlies outblocked the Crusaders 12-7 for the match.

Valpo hit .252 for the match with 54 kills, 21 more than Oakland (3-15, 1-6 Mid-Con). The Crusaders also outdug the visitors 51-37.

Valparaiso will take to the road next Friday evening for a 7 p.m. match against Centenary in Shreveport, La.
