Mikos Earns Another Mid-Con Accolade
Monday, October 24, 2005
Valparaiso senior Liz Mikos (Dundee, Ill./Jacobs) has been named the Mid-Continent Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her role in a pair of Crusader wins, the league announced today.

Mikos recorded nine blocks in the Crusaders' three game sweep of UMKC Saturday night, the fourth most in a three-game match in school history. Mikos' nine blocks were only part of a Valpo defense that tallied 15 total blocks, the fifth most in a three-game match in program history.

On Friday night, Mikos had a pair of solo blocks, and four total, in a 3-0 win over Western Illinois. She also had a strong offensive effort against the Westerwinds, recording nine kills.

This is the second time this season Mikos had been named Defensive Player of the Week, and the sixth time a Crusader has been honored by the Mid-Con this year. Mikos holds nearly every school blocking record, including career blocks and solo blocks, marks she set earlier this season.

Valpo (18-5, 8-1 Mid-Con) returns to the court for a non-conference match against Loyola Tuesday night in Chicago. First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m. and can be heard live on 95.1 FM, WVUR, and online at www.valpo.edu/athletics.
