Schunzel Named Volleyball Assistant Coach
Thursday, April 20, 2006
Valparaiso University Head Volleyball Coach Carin Avery today announced Keith Schunzel has been named Assistant Volleyball Coach.

Schunzel coached last season as a Volunteer Assistant at Purdue University, helping the Boilermakers go 25-9 and reach the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

?I am extremely excited to have Keith join our staff for the 2006 season," Avery said. ?He played a key role in helping Purdue to the Sweet 16 last year, and with that experience plus his fine playing background he can help this program reach the next level."

As a four-year starting setter at Ball State from 1999-2004, Schunzel was a two-time All-American and captained the Cardinals to the NCAA Final Four in 2002. After his collegiate career, Schunzel played one professional season for VfB Friedrichshafen in Germany.

Avery, who signed a four-year contract extension last week, has guided the Crusaders to three consecutive Mid-Continent Conference Regular Season and Tournament Titles, including three straight trips to the NCAA Tournament. Valpo's quest for four in a row begins this fall.
