Valparaiso volleyball head coach Carin Avery announced today that Kelsey Berrington, a 5’9” setter from Britton, Mich., has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Crusader volleyball program as a freshman for with the 2012 season.

Berrington, a four-year letterwinner out of Tecumseh High School, has earned numerous accolades over the last few years with the Indians.  She was named a Second Team All-State honoree as a junior after receiving Honorable Mention All-State accolades as a sophomore.  A two-time First Team All-Conference honoree as a junior and a sophomore, she also has twice earned First Team All-Region mention.  Berrington was also named the County Player of the Year by the Daily Telegram as a junior. 

She has played her club volleyball for NorthShore Wood, helping her squad to a second-place finish in the American division at the USAV National Championships and earning All-Tournament honors in the process.  Berrington also was a two-year member of the Lakeshore Region High Performance team.  She comes from a volleyball family, as her mother, Kim, was a four-year letterwinner at South Carolina and is currently the head coach of the women’s volleyball team at Eastern Michigan.

“We have been lucky to have great setters in our program and we will be adding Kelsey to that list,” said Avery.  “We feel extremely lucky to have found Kelsey because she is not only a great setter, but a great overall player.  She has a very high volleyball IQ and comes from a great volleyball family.  Her mother Kim is a very successful Division I coach and her father Chuck also played volleyball.  She has been around volleyball her entire life and that translates over to how she plays.  We could not have found a better player to come in and run our offense for us next season as a freshman.  It’s a big task, but we know we found the right person for the job.”
