Valparaiso volleyball head coach Carin Avery announced today that Chelsey Tekavec, a 5’10” right side/libero from Solon, Ohio, has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Crusader volleyball program as a freshman in the fall of 2012.

Tekavec totaled 220 kills and 354 digs for the Comets as a senior in 2011, helping to lead the squad to the district championship.  Named among the Cleveland Plain-Dealer’s “Notable Players” watch list, Tekavec earned All-District and All-Conference honors as a senior and was also named to the OVCA District 2 Division I All-Star Second Team.  She previously earned Honorable Mention All-Conference recognition as a sophomore.

Tekavec currently plays her club volleyball on the Academy Volleyball Cleveland (AVC) 18 National team.  She previously played for the Cleveland Volleyball Company 17 Black squad which finished atop the Ohio Valley Region (OVR) rankings in 2011, won the OVR National Bid Qualifier and finished in a tie for 13th place at the Junior National Championships.

"We are excited to have Chelsey join our program,” said Avery.  “She has everything we look for in a recruit - she loves the game of volleyball and is super competitive.  Bringing in Chelsey along with Kelsey makes for a strong class of competitive, never-say-die players that coaches dream of having.  Chelsey is an excellent defender and does a lot of great things on the attack as well.”

Tekavec joins Kelsey Berrington, who signed with the Crusaders in the fall signing period, as freshmen entering the Valpo volleyball program in 2012.
