Coming Up in Crusader Hoops: Valparaiso has just a little time to look to rebound from Saturday afternoon's defeat as the Crusaders take to the road Monday evening for the final road regular season game of the 2006-2007 season as the Brown and Gold head to Indianapolis, Ind. to battle IUPUI. Valpo remains in second place in the Mid-Continent Conference standings heading into the game.

On the Air: Monday's game against IUPUI will be carried live by WVUR (95.1-FM, Valparaiso) and online at www.valpo.edu/athletics. The student-run radio station plans on carrying all Crusader women's basketball games this season live both over the air and online. Eric Brooks and Becky Malewitz will call all the action live from the IUPUI Gymnasium.

Series Notes: Valparaiso and IUPUI are meeting for the 24th time in a series dating back to February 21, 1980 between the two instate rivals. The Crusaders hold a 19-4 edge all-time and have won 11 of the last 12 contests between the two schools. Valpo holds a 6-3 advantage in Indianapolis. The Crusaders won the first meeting between the two schools this season back on January 13 by the score of 78-72 in overtime at the ARC. In that game, Betsy Rietema led Valpo with 23 points and 12 rebounds while Tamra Braun had 18 points and Carrie Myers added 16. Jernisha Cann led IUPUI with 18 points and 11 boards while Tnika Mays added 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Wrapping Up Oakland: Valparaiso shot just 25.4% from the floor and committed 23 turnovers on Saturday afternoon as the Crusaders dropped a 65-44 decision to Oakland in Rochester, Mich. Valpo, one of the top three-point shooting teams in the country entering the game, made just 3-of-22 (13.6%) from long range. Oakland opened up a seven-point lead at half and used an 11-1 run out of the locker room to break the game open. Betsy Rietema led the Crusaders with 12 points and 11 rebounds while Tamra Braun added nine points and 14 boards.

Scouting IUPUI: The Jaguars won a defensive 34-31 game against Western Illinois on Saturday afternoon at home for their second straight victory and move into the log jam in the middle of the Mid-Con standings. Jernisha Cann leads IUPUI on the season averaging 13.2 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest. Tanika Mays adds 11.0 points per game while grabbing 5.9 boards. As a team, the Jaguars are outrebounding opponents by 2.4 boards per night.

Rietema and Myers Earn Academic All-District Honors: Betsy Rietema and Carrie Myers have each been named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District V Teams. Rietema was named to the First Team for the second straight season while Myers was a Second Team pick as voted upon by members of CoSIDA.

A Winning Tradition at Valpo: With the Crusaders next victory this season, the Brown and Gold will have assured itself of recording its 16th winning season in the last 17 years. Valpo also will have assured itself of a winning conference mark for the 14th time in the 15 years in the Mid-Con.

Rietema Continues to Lead Scoring Parade: Betsy Rietema continues to lead the Crusaders in scoring averaging 13.6 points per game. The senior forward has scored in double figures a team high 19 times on the year, giving her 63 double digit games in her career.

Braun Gets to the Glass: Tamra Braun continues to get rebounds for the Crusaders. The senior center is averaging 11.5 boards over the last six games. Braun had a career high 17 rebounds at IPFW to begin the string of games and grabbed 14 more boards Saturday at Oakland.

Heading Home After Indy: Valparaiso will play its final four regular season games at home beginning Saturday afternoon following the Crusaders game at IUPUI on Monday. Valpo is 7-3 at the ARC this season and has won five of its last six on its own home floor.

Double Trouble: Ten of Valpo's 13 players have scored in double figures now this season. Seven players have reached double digits more than once this year.

Getting to the Offensive Glass: Valparaiso grabbed 17 offensive rebounds on Saturday at Oakland, the highest total by the Crusaders this season. Valpo turned those 17 boards into 21 second chance points against the Golden Grizzlies.

Blocking Streak Ends: Tamra Braun had registered at least one block in each of 21 straight games prior to not getting a swat on Saturday at Oakland.

Free Throw Shooting Key in the Mid-Con: Valpo is shooting 76.9% from the stripe in league games, best among all Mid-Con schools. This is significantly up from the season average of 71.8% overall. Sarah Ott is the team's leader from the line, shooting 84.1% for the season and 85.7% against league foes. Launa Hochstetler is a 83.8% shooter on the year and 90.5% in the Mid-Con.
