Valparaiso University women’s basketball head coach Tracey Dorow has announced the signing of Sharon Karungi to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Crusaders.
“Sharon is extremely passionate about making the most of her opportunities to play basketball,” Dorow said. “Once she sets her mind to something, she will pursue that goal until she achieves it.”
Karungi is a 6-2 forward from Kampala, Uganda, and she played this past season at Northern Oklahoma College. She averaged 7.8 points and 8.6 rebounds per contest for the Mavericks in the 2012-13 campaign.
“Sharon loves to play defense and rebound,” Dorow said. “She is a physical player and will use her skills to help the team any way she can. She is probably too unselfish offensively, but she is a team player and will do whatever the team needs her to do.”
Karungi is one of 20 children.
“From the moment Sharon met our players, there was an immediate connection,” Dorow said. “She is a very mature and comical young lady, and she really knows how to pull a group of people together.”
Karungi joins Aliyah Isaac as players who will join Valparaiso for the 2013-14 season.
