Valpo Women to Face Rigorous Schedule in First Horizon League Season
Monday, June 18, 2007
Valparaiso's women's basketball team will play 10 of its 29 regular season games this season against teams that participated in postseason play last year as head coach Keith Freeman released his 2007-2008 schedule.

In the Crusaders' first season as members of the Horizon League, the Brown and Gold will play six contests against NCAA Tournament teams as well as four more games against WNIT participants.

The season tips off on November 9 as the Crusaders head to Bowling Green, a NCAA Sweet 16 team from a year ago. Three days later, Valpo travels to Purdue for a battle with the Boilermakers, a team that advanced to the Elite 8 in 2006-2007.

Valpo's season opening road trip then heads to Cincinnati, Ohio where the Crusaders will face Big East foe Cincinnati as well as NCAA participant Xavier on the same weekend. The six-game road trip to open the year ends Thanksgiving weekend as the Crusaders participate in the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament with Eastern Kentucky and Central Connecticut State, in addition to the tournament hosts.

The home opener occurs on December 1 as Valpo hosts the Hoosier State Classic. The Crusaders face Ball State, a WNIT second round team, while Indiana State and Butler meet in the first contest. The Crusaders also have a home date with North Texas in the stretch of games which sees Valpo play five of six games at the Athletics-Recreation Center.

A 45-mile trip to Notre Dame, a NCAA Tournament second round team, on December 12 is the final road non-conference game for the Crusaders. Valpo then hosts South Dakota State, a WNIT quarterfinalist, and Saint Xavier to round out the non-conference action.

Valpo begins Horizon League play on January 5 hosting Butler. UW-Green Bay, a second round NCAA Tournament team, comes to the ARC on January 19 and UIC, a WNIT participant, visits the ARC on February 9 as part of the double round-robin league slate.

The regular season ends March 8 at Butler before the Crusaders head to the Horizon League Championships March 10-16 to be played at campus sites.
