            Valparaiso University’s Leah Hochstetler (Berlin, Ohio/Hiland H.S.) was named the U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week after helping the Crusaders to a last-second victory against South Dakota State on Saturday.

            The junior guard hit a three-pointer with 48 seconds remaining to put Valpo in front and added a pair of free throws with nine seconds remaining to help seal the Crusaders’ 65-62 victory over the Jackrabbits.

            In the classroom, Hochstetler has a 3.87 grade point average as a nursing major.  She was a two-time member of the Mid-Continent Conference All-Academic Team as well as being named to the Mid-Con Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence.  She also has been a recipient of the Presidential Academic Student-Athlete award and has been on the Dean’s List at Valpo.
