Valpo's Kulaga Named Horizon League Player of the Week
Monday, December 1, 2008

Valparaiso University’s Agnieszka Kulaga (Tarnow, Poland/I Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace H.S.) has been named the Horizon League’s Player of the Week following her efforts in three games for the Crusaders last week.  This is the fourth league honor for Kulaga during her career.

The Most Valuable Player in Valpo’s Coors Rocky Mountain Invitational title over the weekend, Kulaga averaged 22.0 points per game on the week while shooting 58.3% from the floor and making 18-of-20 (90%) of her free throw attempts.  The Crusader guard also grabbed 4.3 rebounds in the three contests.

Kulaga began her week scoring 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the floor, including three three-pointers, in Valpo’s six-point loss at Central Michigan.

The senior then headed west with the Crusaders and started the tournament off with a 20-point, 4-rebound effort as Valpo defeated the host Rams of Colorado State.  Kulaga made 7-of-11 from the field in the first round win.

In the tournament championship against Florida State, Kulaga played all 40 minutes, scoring 22 points and grabbing six boards.  She made 11-of-12 free throws, including several in the final minute to seal the victory.

On the season Kulaga leads the Horizon League averaging 22.0 points per game.  Her .600 field goal percentage is second best in the conference while also ranking among the top-six in the league in three-pointers per game, three-point field goal percentage, and free throw percentage.

Kulaga and Valparaiso (3-1) will close out the road trip on Saturday afternoon with a 4:30 p.m. contest against North Texas in Denton, Texas.  The game will be carried live on WVUR (95.1-FM, Valparaiso) and online at www.valpoathletics.com.
