Spots Still Available for Valpo WBB Elite Camp
The Valparaiso University women’s basketball team is set for its Elite Camp, which is slated to take place on Monday, June 26 and Tuesday, June 27 at the Athletics-Recreation Center. Check in is at noon on Monday, with the camp slated to begin at 1 p.m. Checkout is at noon on Tuesday. The cost is $100 per camper. Spots are still available for the camp.

Valparaiso University president Mark A. Heckler, Ph.D., announced today that the University has accepted an invitation to join the Missouri Valley Conference on July 1, 2017. The Crusaders will begin competing for MVC championships in the 2017–2018 academic year.

Johanson Signs with Valpo Women’s Basketball
The Valparaiso University women’s basketball program has announced its newest addition as 6-foot-5 forward Nicole Johanson has signed to join the team for the 2017-18 season. Johanson enjoyed a strong senior season at Herscher High School in Herscher, Ill., earning all-tournament recognition for all three of the team’s tournaments (Thanksgiving, Christmas and conference) on her way to achieving all-area and all-conference recognition.

Konieczny Named to Indiana All-Star Team
Valparaiso University women’s basketball incoming freshman Nicole Konieczny has earned a place on the 13-player Indiana All-Star roster.The Indiana Girls All-Stars will play a home-and-home series with Kentucky, plus two games against the Indiana Junior All-Stars. All four games will take place in the month of June. One of the All-Stars will be named Indiana Miss Basketball on April 27.

Women’s Basketball Season Concludes with Loss to Top-Seeded Green Bay
After notching a first-round win on Friday, the Valparaiso University women’s basketball team ran into the top-seeded Green Bay Phoenix on Saturday afternoon, an 89-60 defeat in the Horizon League Quarterfinals. Valpo finished the year winning four of its last seven and three of its last five. The Crusaders are expected to bring back 92.1 percent of their regular season scoring for the 2017-18 season.

Crusaders Pull Away From Penguins, Advance to Horizon League Quarterfinals
When the stakes were the highest, the Valparaiso University women’s basketball team came through with one of its best performances of the season on Friday afternoon. The ninth-seeded Crusaders dispatched eighth-seeded Youngstown State 79-62, extending their season at least another day and advancing to the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Tournament at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. The Crusaders received contributions from up and down the roster while compiling a shooting percentage of 49.3 and pulling down an eye-popping 52 rebounds against Youngstown State’s 26.

After a solid finish to the regular season, the Valparaiso University women’s basketball team will try to keep its positive momentum going as it begins the Horizon League Tournament on Friday afternoon in Detroit. The Crusaders face off with Youngstown State, a team against whom Valpo split the two regular season matchups. The Horizon League and Olympia Entertainment announced Thursday that Rick Mahorn is the final panelist for the Champions Brunch at Joe Louis Arena on March 7. The NBA champion and former Detroit Pistons forward rounds out a group that includes three-time WNBA champion Cheryl Ford and Green Bay Director of Athletics Mary Ellen Gillespie as panelists and ESPN women’s college basketball analyst Kelley Deyo as moderator.

Crusaders Can't Sustain Strong First Half in Loss to Panthers
After a first half where everything seemed to go right for the Valparaiso University women’s basketball team, the second half played out in quite the opposite fashion on Monday night at the Klotsche Center in Milwaukee. In the blink of an eye, a five-point halftime lead turned into a Milwaukee route, and the Panthers steadily pulled away for an 80-64 win.

The Valparaiso University women’s basketball team has little time to bask in the glory of Saturday’s win, as the Crusaders face a quick turnaround with a Monday tilt in Milwaukee. Both squads roll into Monday’s matchup coming off upset triumphs, as Milwaukee took down Green Bay 72-60 on Friday night. The schedule does Valpo no favors as the Panthers haven’t played since Friday and stayed home during that stretch, while the Crusaders played on Saturday and had to travel to Milwaukee on Sunday.

The Valparaiso University women’s basketball team escaped with an improbable 57-55 win over Detroit Mercy on Saturday afternoon at the Athletics-Recreation Center. Defense carried the Valparaiso University women’s basketball team as the Crusaders allowed the fourth-fewest points in program history on Saturday afternoon at BB&T Arena, pulling out a 41-32 victory over Northern Kentucky. The Crusaders (7-18, 2-12 Horizon) upstaged the Norse (8-17, 4-9) on their home court for the second consecutive year. Franklin reached the milestone on her second-to-last basket of the game, a jumper with 1:06 remaining. She finished the game with 15 points and becomes the 14th player in program history to join the 1,000-point club.

First-year Valpo assistant coach and former Liberty star Megan Leuzinger will face off with her alma mater. In addition, it will be a family affair for Valpo head coach Tracey Dorow, whose sister is Liberty assistant coach Andy Bloodworth.

Crusaders Receive Balanced Scoring Effort in Rout of IU Kokomo
The Valparaiso University women’s basketball started the home portion of the season on the right foot with a 102-47 whitewash of Indiana University Kokomo on Monday night at the Athletics-Recreation Center. The Crusaders received a game-high 24 points from Dani Franklin, Amber Lindfors turned in a double-double and Haylee Thompson also reached double figures.

Women's Basketball Tips Off Home Slate Monday Evening
The Valparaiso University women’s basketball team is set for its 2016-2017 home opener, as the Crusaders welcome IU Kokomo for the first regular season home game of the year on Monday evening. In just their third year in existence, the Cougars are under the direction of former Crusader Whitney Farris, who appeared in 109 games for Valpo from 2006-2010. After Tracey Dorow made a return to trip to Illinois State on Saturday, this time the Crusaders will be the team welcoming an opposing coach back to her former school.

Crusaders Suffer Saturday Setback at Illinois State
The Valparaiso University women’s basketball team dropped Saturday’s game at Illinois State 77-56. Freshman Addison Stoller (Cissna Park, Ill. / Cissna Park) posted Valpo’s best performance of the day, scoring nine points while hauling in seven rebounds. The Crusaders committed 30 turnovers in the defeat.

Women’s Basketball Welcomes 2017-18 Recruiting Class
Last week brought with it four new reasons for enthusiasm for the Valparaiso University women's basketball program, as a quartet of high school seniors signed National Letters of Intent to join the program for the 2017-2018 season. The incoming recruiting class is comprised of 6-foot-2 forward Ella Ellenson (Rice Lake, Wis. / Rice Lake), 5-9 guard Nicole Konieczny (Granger, Ind. / South Bend Saint Joseph), 6-0 guard Taylor Richards (Doylestown, Ohio / Chippewa) and 6-2 forward Bryce Blood (Toledo, Ohio / Whitmer).

Crusaders Add Motherwell to Coaching Staff
Valparaiso University women’s basketball head coach Tracey Dorow announced today that John Motherwell has joined the Crusader coaching staff as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2016-17 campaign. Motherwell, who brings a wealth of collegiate coaching experience in the Midwest to his position on the Valpo staff, has coached 14 players during his career who have gone on to play professional basketball.

Horizon League Announces 2017 Little Caesars Motor City Madness Updates
The Horizon League Executive Council has approved a revised bracket for the 2017 Little Caesars Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships. In the new format, the women’s basketball championship will run concurrently with the men’s as “Motor City Madness” runs March 3-7, at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.
