Valparaiso University women’s basketball coach Mary Evans has announced the addition of Sean Eaton to her staff as the director of basketball operations.
Eaton graduated from Valpo with a master’s in sports administration in May 2018 after completing his undergraduate work at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in communications in 2016.
“There was no doubt I wanted to be a part of this program after sitting down with Coach Evans and getting to hear her vision for the team and the way she wanted to approach coaching and building a program that is player-centric,” Eaton said. “I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity that she has given me and I can’t wait to take on numerous responsibilities that will help me learn and grow in my role.”
Eaton worked as a graduate assistant in Valpo’s sports information department during the 2018 spring semester. Prior to that, he served as an intern at Priority Sports & Entertainment in Chicago during the 2017 fall semester. Eaton also owns experience as an account executive for 96.7 WCOE-FM/1540 WLOI-AM in LaPorte and as a producer for 540 ESPN Radio in Milwaukee.
“He was very outgoing in his pursuit of our position,” Evans said. “When we sat down and talked, I enjoyed his enthusiasm and energy about what the job entails. He’s going to do a wonderful job being the person on our staff who keeps everything running smoothly. Everyone I asked about him raved about his work ethic and desire to learn. That’s going to be important in his role with our program.”
