Valpo women’s basketball junior Grace White (Redby, Minn./Red Lake [Denver]) has been selected as the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for the final weekend of the regular season after leading the Brown and Gold in scoring in both of their games last weekend.

White opened the final road trip of the regular season with a strong performance at a nationally-ranked Missouri State squad, leading all players with 18 points – including 3-for-5 shooting from the 3-point line – and adding five rebounds as well. Then, White paced Valpo in its key victory to close out the regular season at Southern Illinois, totaling a team-high 16 points and four steals to go with four rebounds.

For the weekend, White averaged 17 points/game on 56.3% shooting from the field, 66.7% from the 3-point line and 85.7% from the foul line, adding 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. The junior led Valpo in scoring in both games after pacing the team just once in its first 27 games of the year.

White’s Newcomer of the Week award is the fourth for a Valpo player this season, as she follows in the footsteps of sophomore Carie Weinman¸ who earned the accolade three times.
