Graduate Assistant

Maggie Acuna joined the Valparaiso University women’s basketball coaching staff in fall of 2010 as a graduate assistant and handles all of the team’s video needs.

Acuna played at the University of Illinois from 2002 to 2006 where she started all 61 games at point guard for the Illini over her final two seasons.  She finished her career 12th on the Illinois assists lists and 15th on the all-time steals charts.  As a senior, Acuna finished third in the Big Ten averaging 4.3 assists per game and ranked among the top-12 in the conference in steals, defensive rebounds, assist-to-turnover ratio, and minutes as well.

She was named the team’s Best Defensive Player in 2005-2006, and was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.

Acuna was a sports marketing assistant at Illinois in 2005-2006 before serving as a graduate assistant in strength and conditioning in 2006-2007.  She went on to work part-time with the Chicago Bears in the premium suites and Cadillac Club  while also serving as an account manager for Coca-Cola.

A 2006 graduate of the University of Illinois with a degree in community health, Acuna also received her master’s degree at Illinois in 2007 in sports management and marketing.  She is now enrolled in Valparaiso University’s School of Law, with an anticipated graduation date of May 2012.
