Valpo Bowling Inks Two Bowlers to NLIs

Valpo bowling head coach Shon Washington will welcome a pair of freshmen to the team next year, as Addy Bates and Kaylee Hodson have returned their signed National Letters of Intent and will join the program in the fall of 2020.

Addy Bates – Right-handed – Cedar Park, Texas – Cedar Park H.S.

The team captain of her high school squad, Bates stood out at last year’s Texas state tournament. She closed qualifying in ninth position to earn a spot in the 16-individual bracket, and then made a run all the way to the title match, finishing as the state runner-up. She also placed 54th at the 2019 Junior Gold event in Detroit, Mich.

Bates on why she chose Valpo: “I chose Valpo because after visiting the beautiful campus, spending time with the bowling team and the coach, the decision just felt right. Valpo is the perfect mixture of a small-town feel with big-city opportunities. From academics to athletics, Valpo stands high above the rest. I'm excited to be able to call this school my future home and to be able to represent Valpo Athletics in the future!”

Washington on Bates: “Once you meet Addy, you'll know why I absolutely wanted her to be a part of our program. She's genuine, and you can truly sense the passion she has for this sport and her desire to be a journalist. I look forward to watching her grow as an athlete and person here at Valpo.”

Kaylee Hodson – Left-handed – Auburn, N.Y. – Auburn H.S.

Hodson has qualified for Junior Gold each of the last three years and is a three-time Auburn USBC Junior Masters Champion. She currently carries a house pattern average of 207 and a sport pattern average of 180.

Hodson on why she chose Valpo: “I chose Valpo as my home because it’s where my dreams become goals and my goals become reality.”

Washington on Hodson: “Kaylee gives our team another strong presence on the left side of the lane, joining current freshman Alexis Roof. Kaylee is a proven tournament performer, which is the common thread of this year's recruiting class. I am confident she can step in and contribute right away.”
