Valpo Finishes 22nd at NCAA Great Lakes Regional

Valparaiso University's women's cross country team earned a 22nd place finish in a field of 30 schools on Saturday morning at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships held in Terre Haute, Ind.

The Crusaders tallied 638 points, while Notre Dame won the championship with 43 points. Michigan also claimed a championship berth with 58 points.

Freshman Danielle Nunnelly (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso H.S.) led the way for the Crusaders with a 102nd place finish. The rookie finished the six-kilometer race in a time of 23:06.7. Rachel Nelson (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit H.S.) was just four places behind Nunnelly with a time of 23:10.8.

Junior Heidi Nathan (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford H.S.) was third for the Brown and Gold and 125th overall with a time of 23:26.5. Amy Mikel (Lemont, Ill./Fenwick H.S.) concluded her collegiate career with a 149th place effort in a time of 23:52.2, while Amanda Lee (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon H.S.) did the same with a time of 23:59.3. The senior concluded the scoring for Valpo with a 156th place finish overall.

Valparaiso has now concluded its 2003 campaign.
