Valparaiso’s women’s golf team concluded its inaugural season on Sunday morning, finishing seventh at the Horizon League Championships held at Kearney Hills Golf Links in Lexington, Ky.
The Crusaders finished up the rain delayed second round before playing round three in its entirety. Round two saw Valpo shoot 380, a 10-shot improvement over the opening round. The Brown and Gold was one of only two teams to shoot better in the second round than the first. Valpo then shot 397 in the final round to conclude the tournament at 1,167, finishing in seventh place. Detroit won the team championship at 943, nine shots ahead of runner-up Youngstown State.
Annie Nolan (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso H.S.) led the Crusaders in all three rounds, firing an 89 to complete her second round while adding a 90 in today’s final round. She finished tied for 29th overall at 270 on the 6,062-yard, par-72 course.
Jessica O’Brien (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) played her final couple of holes to shoot 91 before carding a 97 in round three to finish at 281. Kathleen Cooper (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) finished up her 94 before adding a 99 to shoot 293 for the tournament.
Sarah Al-Momar (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) turned in a 111 in the final round after finishing her final hole of round two on Sunday, shooting 106. She concluded play at 323. Kadie Savoree (Paris, Ill./Paris H.S.), the only Crusader to finish round two on Saturday, shot 128 to finish at 377.
Alainna Stefan of Detroit won the individual title shooting 10-over par 226 (73-77-76), three shots ahead of teammate Marni Achterhoff.
