Valparaiso turned in the best 36-hole tournament score in program history and finished in a tie for eighth place on Tuesday as the Crusaders shot 328 in round two of the Chicago State Cougar Classic to finish at 651 overall at Lost Marsh Golf Course in Hammond, Ind.

The Crusaders bettered their tournament score from last week at Green Bay by six shots for the best in school history, and finished the tournament tied with Green Bay.  The Crusaders were a stroke ahead of Alabama State.  Butler won the team title at 622 followed by IUPUI.

Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale H.S.) carded the team’s low round of the day with a 79 to finish in ninth place overall at 156.  Her two round total bettered the school record by a shot set last week by Annie Nolan (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso H.S.).

Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd H.S.) turned in an 82 on Tuesday to finish at 163 in a tie for 29th place overall.  Brianna Davy (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) posted an 83, one shot better than Monday’s first round, to finish at 167 while Nolan finished at 168 after shooting 87 in the final round.  Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead H.S.) was Valpo’s fourth scorer on Tuesday with an 84, also a stroke better than round one, to finish at 169.

Jessica O’Brien (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) matched her lowest as a collegian with an 88 to finish at 180 while Alyssa Cameron (Warsaw, Ind./Warsaw H.S.) shot 93 to finish her first collegiate tournament with a 184.

Valparaiso will return to Lost Marsh on October 2 for its next event, a triangular match against Chicago State and Green Bay.
