The Crusader women, playing the club’s North Course, turned in a score of 316 on the 6,836-yard, par-70 layout, one shot ahead of eighth place Evansville.  The team score marks a school best for the second year program.  The Crusaders trail sixth place Detroit by just two strokes and fifth place Youngstown State by three.  Green Bay leads the way at 304 with Butler a shot back.  Dayton and Robert Morris (Pa.) are both tied for third at 309.

“The women played solid all day today,” head coach Mike Higdon said.  “All of our scores were 80 or below.  The difference between us and the other teams is that they all had that one low score.”

Brianna Davy (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) led the way for the Brown and Gold in round one, carding a seven-over par 77 to tie for 11th place overall.  The freshman was just one shot off of her low round of the year.  Classmate Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead H.S.) did shoot her best score of the season, posting a 79 to tie for 23rd overall, and finish second among the Crusaders.

Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale H.S.), Annie Nolan (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso H.S.), and Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd H.S.) all shot rounds of 80 on Monday.  Nolan’s round included three birdies.

“We hope to go out tomorrow and pick up a couple more shots and look to move up the leaderboard,” Higdon concluded.

Individually, Dayton’s Julie Pouliquen holds the overnight lead by two shots after shooting an even par round of 70.

Tuesday’s final 18 holes will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CDT.
