Crusaders Place Seventh at Green Bay Invitational

The Valparaiso women's golf team closed the two-round Green Bay Invitational on Tuesday in Green Bay, Wis., finishing the tournament in seventh place.

The Crusaders posted nearly matching rounds over the two-day event, following Monday's 330 with a 331 on Tuesday to finish with a total stroke count of 661, just 10 shots out of a tie for fourth place. Valpo was the top finishing squad of the three Horizon League schools at the event. Indianapolis took the team title (629), while Jenna Peters of Butler went 73-76 to earn the individual championship.

Valpo was led again on Tuesday by junior Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd), who followed Monday's 77 with an 81 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 11th place. Juniors Brianna Davy (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) and Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) posted rounds of 82 and 85, respectively, on Tuesday to share 25th place with a 166 total.

Junior Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead) improved by eight strokes on Tuesday, shooting an 83 to finish in a tie for 46th place with a 174 total. Sophomore A.J. Selig (Hortonville, Wis./Appleton West) rounded out the Crusader contingent with an 87 on Tuesday to follow an 88 on Monday, finishing the tournament in a tie for 48th position.

Valparaiso returns to action next week at the two-day CSU Cougar Classic, hosted by Chicago State, which begins on Monday, Sept. 17.
