The Valparaiso women's golf team opened the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial Monday in Springfield, Mo., ending the 36-hole day in 10th place.

The Crusaders shot an opening round 319 on Monday before posting an afternoon round of 323 to complete the first day of action at 642, good for 10th place among the 15 competing teams. Arkansas-Little Rock leads the team standings at 593, while host Missouri State claimed the individual leader through 36 holes in the form of Emma Clegg and her 71-73 on Monday.

Junior Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) paced Valpo in both rounds on Monday. Voigt opened the tournament with a 79 before improving by five shots in the afternoon, posting a 74 to close the day at 153 in a tie for 18th place. Fellow juniors Brianna Davy (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) and Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) each ended the day in a tie for 46th at 162, as Davy went 80-82 and Kleckner 83-79.

Junior Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead) shot an opening-round 80 before posting an 88 in the afternoon, her 168 good for a tie for 67th through 36 holes. Freshman Sibil Gill (Kokomo, Ind./Western) also opened with an 80 on Monday and ended the day in a tie for 81st place with a 174.

Valparaiso concludes the tournament with one final round on Tuesday from Springfield, Mo.
