Crusaders in a tie for third after day one of HL Championship
Kelly Voigt is tied for second after the first round of the HL Championship.

Junior Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) is tied for second place after a first round 76, and the Valparaiso women’s golf team is tied for third after the first day of the Horizon League Championship at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

Voigt is three strokes behind Cleveland State’s Allyson Hackman who leads after a 73 in the first round. The Crusaders posted a team score of 321 and are tied with Youngstown State. Detroit and Cleveland State are tied for first with a score of 312.

Voigt was one of just seven golfers to break 80 in the opening round. She opened her round with 11-straight pars.

Juniors Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) and Brianna Davy (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) are tied for 16th place after rounds of 81. Each player made one birdie in her respective round.

Junior Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead) recorded an opening round score of 83 and is tied for 21st position.

Sophomore A.J. Selig (Hortonville, Wis./Appleton West) is tied for 30th place after posting a score of 86.
