Crusader Women Finish 6th at Horizon League Championships
Erika Pfaender finished fifth overall for the Crusaders.

Valparaiso’s women’s golf team finished in sixth place on Sunday as the Horizon League Championships came to a close at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

The Crusaders shot 347 in the final round to finish at 1,034 for the 54-hole event.  Youngstown State finished fifth, 23 shots ahead of Valpo while the Brown and Gold finished 19 shots ahead of seventh place Green Bay.  Butler won the team title shooting 975 while Detroit was second, eight shots back.  Loyola (Chicago) (1,000) and Cleveland State (1,004) finished third and fourth respectively.

Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead H.S.) finished in tie for fifth place overall after firing a final round 81 to finish at 242 on the 5,884-yard, par 73 course.  She led the Crusaders by 13 shots for the tournament.  Brianna Davy (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) also finished in the  top-20 overall with an 18th place effort.  She carded a final round 84 to finish at 255.

Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale H.S.) shot 92 on Sunday to finish at 271 and finished tied with teammate Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd H.S.) overall after Voigt posted 95 on the final day.  Jessica O’Brien (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) added her best round of the tournament, a 90, to shoot 284 for the three-day event.

Butler’s Michelle Nash won the individual title shooting 233.
