Valpo Women Finish Seventh at Dayton Invitational

The fall season of women’s golf came to an end on Tuesday for Valparaiso as the Crusaders finished seventh at the U of Dayton Fall Invitational held at the NCR Country Club’s North Course in Kettering, Ohio.

The Crusaders fired a final round 317, improving by four strokes over the opening round, to finish at 638, just one shot behind Findlay.  Cincinnati won the team title at 605.

Playing as an individual, A.J. Selig (Hortonville, Wis./Appleton West H.S.) posted the team’s best round of the day, firing a 75 on the 6,358-yard, par-70 layout.  Valpo’s lone freshman finished the tournament at 162 after improving 12 shots from day one to day two.

Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Mich./Irondale H.S.) posted her second top-10 finish of the season after carding her second straight 78 to finish at 156 in a tie for 10th place.  Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead H.S.) placed 14th at 157, one shot behind Kleckner, after shooting a final round 77.

Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd H.S.) shot 84 on day two to finish tied with Selig at 162 while Brianna Davy (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) added an 81 to post 166.  Jessica O’Brien (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) shot a final round 81 as well, 11 strokes better than Monday, to turn in a total of 173.

Detroit’s Lindsey Lammers won the individual title in a playoff over Cincinnati’s Olivia Dose.  Both finished at seven-over par 147.
