Valpo Sixth Midway Through IPFW Spring Classic
Erika Pfaender led Valpo with a first round 80.

Valparaiso carded a team total of 339 in the first round of the IPFW Spring Classic on Sunday afternoon at Pine Valley Country Club in Fort Wayne, Ind. and is tied for sixth place midway through the tournament.

Indianapolis leads the tournament at 322 while the Crusaders are tied with Nebraska-Omaha for sixth, just one shot behind fifth place Cleveland State.

Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead H.S.) led the way for Valpo shooting an opening round 80 on the 6,042-yard, par-71 layout, and sits in a tie for seventh place individually, just two shots off of the lead held by four players.

Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd H.S.) added an 84 for the Crusaders while Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale H.S.) fired an 87.  Jessica O’Brien (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) rounded out the Crusader scorers with an 88 while Brianna Davy (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) added a 92 for Valpo.

Valparaiso will return to the links on Monday morning for the final round of competition.  Play begins at 9 a.m. CDT.
