Valparaiso closed out the two-day, 36-hole Cardinal Classic in Yorktown, Ind., hosted by Ball State, on Sunday afternoon, finishing out the event in tenth place.
The Crusaders shot a team round of 331 on Sunday to finish with a total score of 656, just one stroke out of a tie for eighth place. The host Cardinals took the team title with a 611, while Marshall’s Korakot Simsiriwong earned medalist honors after shooting a 151 and winning a two-person playoff.
Junior Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) was Valpo’s top finisher, improving by five strokes on Sunday as she closed the tournament with a 76, giving her a two-round total of 157 which was good for a tie for 18th. Junior Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) posted an 82 on Sunday, with her 160 total placing her in 25th position.
Junior Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead) shot an 87 in the final round on Sunday to close the tournament at 168, leaving her tied for 46th place. Senior Jessica O’Brien (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) registered an 86 in the final round to finish at 171 in a tie for 53rd place, while sophomore A.J. Selig (Hortonville, Wis./Appleton West) posted an 88 Sunday and finished in 60th place at 174.
Valparaiso takes next weekend off before returning to competition on Monday, Oct. 8 at the two-day Butler Fall Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind.
