Crusader women in eighth after first round of IPFW Invite
Erika Pfaender fired a first-round 79 at the IPFW Invitational.

The Valparaiso women’s golf team is in a tie for eighth place after the first round of the IPFW Invitational at Brookwood GC in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The Crusaders finished with a team total of 321 after the opening round. The University of Indianapolis leads with a team score of 308.

Junior Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead) and sophomore A.J. Selig (Hortonville, Wis./Appleton West) each led Valparaiso with a round of 79 on Sunday. The duo is six shots behind Regan Pittard of the University of Indianapolis for medalist honors.

Junior Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) posted a score of 80 for the first round.

Juniors Brianna Davy (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) and Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) each shot rounds of 81.

The Crusaders will close out the IPFW Invitational on Monday, April 1 with the final round from Brookwood GC.
