Crusader Women's Golf Opens Fall Campaign

The Valparaiso women's golf team kicked off its 2013 fall season on Sunday in Myrtle Beach, S.C. at the Golfweek Program Challenge, playing the first of three rounds over the par-71, 6,038-yard Caledonia Golf & Fish Club.

The Crusaders posted a team score of 323 on Sunday and are in 11th place out of the 12 competing teams through one round. Campbell leads the team scoring, opening with a +6 score of 290 Sunday.

Senior Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) paced Valpo in the opening round, carding a six-over-par 77 to finish the day in a tie for 30th. The 77 matches the ninth-lowest single-round score in program history. Senior Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) shot a ten-over 81 and enters Monday tied for 43rd place.

Sophomore Sibil Gill (Kokomo, Ind./Western) posted an 82 on Sunday, good for a tie for 48th position. Rounding out the Crusader quintet were newcomers Sydney Shrum and Angie Kim, who shot rounds of 83 and 88, respectively, in their Valpo debuts.

Valparaiso will hit the links again on Monday for the second of three tournament rounds.
