Crusaders Continue Play at McNeese State Tournament

The Valparaiso women's golf team continued the LeTriomphe Collegiate Invitational at LeTriomphe G.C. in Broussard, La. Monday with the second of three rounds of action, improving by three strokes from Sunday's opening round.

Valpo posted a score of 334 for the tournament's middle round on Monday, giving the Crusaders a two-round score of 671 to leave them in 17th place out of 18 teams with 18 holes to play. UL-Monroe leads the team standings at 599 and also boasts the individual leader in Alison Knowles (-3).

For the second straight day, senior Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead) led the Crusaders as she shot a second-round 81. Pfaender sits at 161 through two days, good for a tie for 47th place. Fellow senior Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) posted a round of 83 on Monday to give her a two-day total of 167, tied for 68th position.

Sophomore Sibil Gill (Kokomo, Ind./Western) enjoyed one of the field's largest improvements from the first round to the second round, shaving eight shots off her first-round score as she shot an 82 on Monday. Gill sits in a tie for 81st with a 172 through two days. Senior Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) registered a round of 88 to leave her in 84th place at 173, while freshman Sydney Shrum (Cloverdale, Ind./Cloverdale) shot a 92 on Monday and is in 92nd place with a two-round total of 180.

Valparaiso closes out the LeTriomphe Collegiate Invitational with the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
