Crusaders Return Home Following IPFW Spring Classic

The Valparaiso University women’s golf team closed out the final day of its first tournament of April on Monday at the IPFW Spring Classic in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The Crusaders were paced byfreshman Kylie Shoemake (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central), who followed up her team leading first-round score of 81 with a second-round score of 84, giving her a 36-hole score of 165 over the two days, tying her for 18th place.

Sophomore Kiana Jongsma (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central) posted the team’s best second-round score on Monday with an 81, giving her a two-round total of 169 and placing her in a tie for 23rd.

Senior Sibil Gill (Kokomo, Ind./Western) and junior Sydney Shrum (Cloverdale, Ind./Cloverdale) closed out the final day with a total score of 173. Gill posted a second-round score of 82, while Shrum tied teammate Jongsma for the team’s best round on Monday with an 81.

Junior Angie Kim (Schaumburg, Ill./Fremd) rounded out the Crusader team, shooting an 88 on Monday to bring her 36-hole score to a 182.

As a team, the Crusaders finished the two-day event with a team score of 680, placing them in sixth position, just one stroke behind fifth place.

Next up for the Valparaiso women will be their lone home event of the spring season and their final regular season tournament, as the Crusaders host the Crusader/Jaguar Challenge at The Course at Aberdeen starting Saturday, Apr. 9.
